| .ftacc | File with a copy of a FuelTech module's configuration, exported and imported by CAN Network. |
| 2-step | Rev limiter used at launch. |
| ACK | Acknowledgment bit of the CAN frame. Any module that received the frame without error forces this bit to dominant. |
| Arbitration | Contest for the bus when two modules start transmitting together. The lowest ID wins. |
| Arithmetic channel | Signal field in Customizable CAN. When on, the VCU does the calculation with real numbers and accepts a fractional scale and a negative offset. |
| Baud rate (Baudrate) | Bit rate, in bits per second (kbit/s or Mbit/s; the CAN ports screen writes kbps). All modules on a bus must use the same one. |
| Bit stuffing | Bits inserted into the stream: after five identical bits in a row, the transmitter inserts an inverted bit. |
| BRS | Bit Rate Switch. In CAN FD, switches to the data rate during the data phase of the frame. |
| Bus | The pair of wires CAN_H and CAN_L to which all the modules of the network are connected. |
| Bus-off | State in which a module, after many errors, disconnects from the bus so it does not disturb the others. |
| CAN | Controller Area Network. Serial communication network used in vehicles (ISO 11898). |
| CAN FD | Evolution of CAN with up to 64 bytes per frame and a faster data phase. |
| CAN_H and CAN_L | The two wires of the bus. The information is in the voltage difference between them. |
| Checksum | Check value calculated over the data of the frame. Some original modules require this value in command frames. |
| CRC | Check code calculated over the CAN frame. The receiver recalculates it and compares. |
| Custom measurement | Free input channel of the VCU (#01 to #36), which can receive, for example, a value from an RX CAN frame. It can be renamed. |
| DBC | Text file that describes the messages and signals of a CAN network. |
| DLC | Data Length Code. Field of the frame that gives the number of data bytes. |
| Dominant and recessive | The two states of the bus. Dominant (0) always wins over recessive (1). |
| EV mode | Option on the CAN ports screen, RAW mode only. In version 3.0, it does not change how the port works. |
| Extended | Name of the Extended ID field (29-bit ID). In the sniffer, it is also the name of the full-list display mode. |
| Factor and offset | Constants that convert the raw value into the physical value: physical = raw × factor + offset. |
| Force classic CAN | Frame option, on a port with FD mode, that sends it as classic CAN. |
| Frame | A complete CAN message, with ID, control, data, check and acknowledgment. |
| FTCAN 2.0 | FuelTech's protocol over CAN, with a 29-bit extended ID at 1 Mbit/s, used among FuelTech products. |
| GenMsgCycleTime | DBC attribute with the transmit period of a message, in milliseconds. |
| ID | Message identifier. It defines the content and the priority. 11 bits (standard) or 29 bits (extended). |
| IEEE floating point | Binary format for numbers with decimal places. Customizable CAN does not work with it. |
| Intel and Motorola | The two byte orders of a signal longer than 8 bits: Intel (little-endian, least significant byte first, @1) and Motorola (big-endian, most significant byte first, @0). |
| ISO 11898 | International standard that defines CAN and CAN FD. |
| Legacy broadcasts | The 9 fixed-content frames that the VCU can send in the format of the simplified packets of the FuelTech PowerFT line ECUs. |
| Multiplexed signal | Signal that changes meaning depending on a selector value in the same frame. Customizable CAN does not handle it. |
| OEM | Original factory equipment: equipment or network that came with the vehicle. |
| PDM | Power distribution module. The VCU talks to PDM modules through the PDM CAN function. |
| Pit limit | Speed limit function in the pit area. The legacy broadcasts carry its state (active or not). |
| PowerFT | FuelTech ECU line whose simplified packets the legacy broadcasts reproduce. |
| ProductID, DataFieldID and MessageID | The three parts of the FTCAN 2.0 29-bit ID: product and unit, data format and message type. |
| Racelink | Third-party equipment with its own function in the VCU settings > Racelink menu. |
| RAW mode | CAN port mode without the FuelTech protocol, for third-party equipment and the vehicle's original network. |
| Rolling counter | Value that changes with every frame. Some original modules require it in command frames. |
| Safe mode | One of the reactions the VCU can take on an alert, chosen in Alert action, in the Alerts menu. |
| Sample point | Instant, within each bit, when the controller reads the bus, given as a percentage of the bit duration. |
| SIG_VALTYPE_ | DBC line that marks a signal as floating point. |
| Signal | A value within the frame (engine speed, temperature, switch...), defined by position, size, order, factor and offset. |
| Sniffer | Tool that shows the frames passing on the bus. |
| SOF, RTR, IDE, SRR, EOF | Control fields of the CAN frame: start of frame, bits that say the type of ID and of frame, and end of frame. |
| Start bit | Position of the signal within the frame. In Intel it is the least significant bit of the signal; in Motorola, the most significant. In Customizable CAN, the Start bit field. |
| TCU | Transmission Control Unit. The transmission's own control module (External TCU). |
| Terminator | 120 Ω resistor between CAN_H and CAN_L, one at each end of the bus. |
| Time for validation and Delay to start | Fields of the VCU alerts, such as Error in the CAN port: how long the failure must last (Time for validation) and the delay before the alert starts watching (Delay to start). |
| Time quanta | Time slices into which the controller divides each bit. |
| Timeout | Maximum time without receiving a frame before considering the data invalid. |
| Two's complement | Standard way to write negative numbers in binary. In an 8-bit signed signal, raw value 255 is worth −1. |
| VCU | Vehicle Control Unit. Name FuelTech uses for the units of the VisionFT line (FT700, FT470). |
| VECTOR__INDEPENDENT_SIG_MSG | Dummy message that some programs add to the DBC. On import, it takes up one frame. |
| VFrameFormat | DBC attribute that says whether the message is classic CAN or CAN FD. |
