14. Parameter reference
This chapter lists, screen by screen, the parameters that VE mode uses: what each one does, the range the screen accepts and the default of a new map.
The default is the value that FuelTech Vision writes into a new map. When the VCU has a different factory value for the same function, the FuelTech Vision value applies, and it goes to the VCU together with the map.
The sections follow the FuelTech Vision menu on the computer: Fuel tables, then Engine Settings and Sensors and calibration.
The VE screens only appear with Fuel strategy set to VE Based, on the Engine settings screen.
Pressures are in gauge bar, as the screen shows the MAP: negative is vacuum, positive is boost. The screen converts to the unit chosen in Measurement units.
The "What it does" column gives the direction of the effect. The reason behind each function is in the chapter indicated at the end of each section.
#Main MAP VE table
Path: Fuel tables > Main MAP VE table. It is a single table that applies to banks A, B and C (the screen calls them Primary, Secondary and Tertiary).
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cell value | How much the cylinder fills, in %. A larger VE asks for more fuel, in the same proportion. | 0 to 300%, step 0.5 | 20.8 to 104.1% |
| RPM axis | Columns of the table. Outside the axis the VCU uses the edge value, without extrapolating. | 0 to 16000 rpm | 22 points, 0 to 8500 rpm |
| Pressure axis | Rows, in gauge MAP. Boost above the last point uses the VE of that point. | −1 to +20 bar | 28 points, −1.0 to +3.4 bar |
| Size | Up to 32 × 32. With up to 16 × 16 and the learning cleared after sending, each VE cell has its own cell in the learning. | up to 32 × 32 | 22 engine speeds × 28 pressures |
Axes, grids and editor tools: see The tables: VE, lambda target, axes and grids.
#Lambda target table by MAP
Path: Fuel tables > Lambda target table by MAP. It is the lambda that goes into the fuel calculation and that the closed loop chases.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cell value | Requested lambda. A smaller value asks for more fuel. It shows in lambda or AFR, depending on Measurement units > O2 Sensor. | lambda 0.28 to 10.00 | lambda 0.950 to 0.780 |
| Axes | Its own grid, read at the same speed and pressure point as the VE. | up to 32 × 32 | 25 engine speeds × 32 pressures, up to +6.0 bar |
The default, equal at every engine speed, is in The tables: VE, lambda target, axes and grids. The enrichments in % do not change the target: a mixture that is different on purpose is requested in this table.
#MAP estimated by TPS
Path: Fuel tables > MAP estimated by TPS. The screen only appears with MAP failsafe set to MAP estimated by TPS table.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cell value | Pressure that the VE uses when there is no valid MAP reading or with Use MAP sensor off. The screen accepts boost values; the default never exceeds 0 bar. | −1 to +6 bar | −0.80 to 0 bar |
| Axes | Columns by engine speed, rows by throttle opening (TPS). | up to 16 × 16 | 500 to 8000 rpm, 0 to 100% |
With the default table the VE calculates as if there were no turbo: see the warning about turbo engines in Before you start: engine, fuel, injectors and sensors.
#Acceleration fuel enrichment and decay
Path: Fuel tables > Acceleration fuel enrichment and decay. In VE mode it is a function of its own, in % of the base fuel, and it is off by default.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Acceleration fuel enrichment source selection | Signal whose rate triggers the enrichment. Use TPS, with a cable throttle or an electronic throttle commanded by the VCU. MAP does not trigger with the factory values. | TPS, Pedal, MAP | TPS |
| Minimum variation of TPS/MAP for pump shot | Minimum rate of the signal to trigger it (the pump shot in the name is this same acceleration fuel enrichment). A larger value makes it less sensitive. | 0 to 1000%/s | 15%/s |
| Fuel enrichment duration (Injection events) | Injection events per cylinder with the enrichment at full, before it starts to fall. In seconds, it gets shorter as the engine speed rises. | 0 to 50 events | 5 |
| Acceleration fuel pump shot reduction per event | Percentage points of the base fuel removed at each event after the duration. A larger value makes the enrichment disappear faster. | 0 to 100%/event | 10%/event |
| Fuel percentage by acceleration rate | Table of signal rate by engine speed, in % of the base fuel. A positive rate adds fuel; a negative one removes it. | −100 to 1000% | up to 31.6% at 250%/s |
| Temperature correction | Multiplies the enrichment according to the engine temperature: 100% doubles it. With the engine temperature sensor in failure, it uses the 0 °C value. | −500 to 500% | 115% at −10 °C, 0 from 70 °C upward |
How the enrichment acts in VE mode and how to choose the source: see Enrichments and compensations in VE mode.
#Fuel closed loop (VE)
Path: Fuel tables > Fuel closed loop (VE). It is off by default; turn it on with a right-click on the computer or with a long press on the VCU screen.
On the computer, the settings are in the Settings tab, in groups, and the two tables in the Adjust tab; the two memory-saving settings are in the group Saving the learning to memory. On the VCU screen there are three pages: Fast correction (STFT), Learning (LTFT) and Operating conditions.
All the settings can be changed with the engine running, except the on/off switch of the function. How the closed loop works: see VE closed loop.
#Fast correction (STFT)
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proportional gain | Immediate part of the correction, proportional to the sensor error. A larger value reacts more strongly to the error. | 0 to 5 | 0.20 |
| Integral time constant (x delay) | Integrator time, in multiples of the estimated delay. A smaller value corrects faster and can oscillate; the on-screen help suggests 2 to 4. | 1 to 10 times | 3.0 |
| Lambda error dead band | An error smaller than this fraction of the target is ignored, so as not to follow the sensor noise. 0.007 is 0.7% of the target. | 0 to 0.050 | 0.007 |
| Total authority (STFT + LTFT) | Ceiling of the sum of the fast correction and the learning. Staying at the ceiling all the time indicates a VE or other engine input that is very wrong. | 5 to 40% | 25% |
| Only enrich above the set pressure | On, above the set pressure the fast correction only adds fuel. The applied learning continues to count. | on or off | off |
| Pressure above which it only enriches | Pressure from which the switch above applies. | −1 to 3 bar | 0.30 bar |
#Transport delay estimate
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cycle delay (revolutions to exhaust) | Engine revolutions between injecting and the gas leaving. A larger value increases the delay at low engine speed. The help suggests 1.5 to 2. | 0.5 to 4 rev | 1.75 rev |
| Exhaust transport constant | Tells where the sensor is: larger for a sensor far from the engine. It is divided by the fuel flow of the engine. | 0 to 2 s·l/min | 0.020 |
| O2 sensor conditioner delay | Fixed delay of the sensor and the conditioner. The help suggests 0.10 to 0.15 s. | 0 to 1 s | 0.12 s |
| Maximum delay considered | Ceiling of the estimated delay. Raise it if the delay measured at idle exceeds 2.5 s. | 0.5 to 5 s | 2.5 s |
The constant has no official value by sensor position. How to measure it on the car and the care needed with old maps: see VE closed loop.
#Learning (LTFT)
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Long term learning (LTFT) | Allows the fast correction to pass into the learning table, which stays in the VCU, outside the map. | on or off | on |
| Apply the learned LTFT | On, the learning enters the fuel. Off, the table only records, and the channel VE closed loop - Active LTFT stays at 0. | on or off | off |
| Minimum STFT to transfer to LTFT | A fast correction smaller than this is never learned and stays only in the fast correction. | 0 to 10% | 1.5% |
| Stable time in cell to transfer | Continuous time in the same cell before each learning step. A larger value learns more slowly and with less noise. | 0.5 to 30 s | 4 s |
| LTFT limit per cell | Largest correction that each learning cell can store. | 0 to 30% | 15% |
| Rich bias in learning | On, the learning stores the Rich bias extra, and the fast correction removes it while the sensor is valid. | on or off | off |
| Rich bias | With the bias on, how much richer the engine runs when the fast correction goes to zero. | 0 to 10% | 3% |
| Minimum interval between memory saves | Minimum spacing between saves of the learning with the engine running. A smaller value wears out the VCU memory faster. | 10 to 600 s | 60 s |
| Accumulated change that requests a save | Sum of the changes in the cells that requests a save. When the engine is turned off, it saves if something changed and the VCU stays on for 2 s. | 0.5 to 20% | 2% |
#Operating conditions
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum engine temperature | Below it, or with the engine temperature sensor in failure, the fast correction stays frozen. | −50 to 1250 °C (field limit) | 70 °C |
| Time after start to begin | Wait counted from the end of the post-start enrichment, not from the start. With the defaults and the engine already warm, the correction begins about 24 s after the start. | 0 to 120 s | 15 s |
| Minimum RPM | Below it the fast correction gradually returns to zero. The applied learning continues to count. | 0 to 16000 rpm | 500 rpm |
| Maximum RPM | Above it the fast correction stays frozen, as in the other freezes of the closed loop; it does not go to zero by the Minimum RPM rule. | 0 to 16000 rpm | 8000 rpm |
| Lockout after fuel cut | Minimum wait, counted from the end of an injection cut, before correcting again. | 0 to 10 s | 2.0 s |
| Post-transient lockout margin | Time added to the estimated delay in the closed loop waits and in the window that detects a transient. | 0 to 2 s | 0.30 s |
| Minimum acceleration fuel enrichment that freezes the correction | Acceleration fuel enrichment above this value, accelerating or decelerating, freezes the fast correction; below it, only the learning waits. At 0, any enrichment freezes it. | 0 to 50% | 0% |
#Learning conditions
On the computer, these six settings form this group; on the VCU screen, they are on the Operating conditions page. The two variations that define a transient freeze the fast correction, not only the learning.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| TPS change that defines a transient | TPS change within the detection window that counts as a transient and freezes the fast correction. | 1 to 50% | 5% |
| MAP change that defines a transient | The same, for the MAP. | 0.01 to 1 bar | 0.05 bar |
| Differential pressure tolerance for learning | Deviation of the differential pressure around the injector rated pressure above which the learning stops. It only applies with the pressure sensor on. | 1 to 50% | 10% |
| Air temperature range for learning | The learning stops when the air leaves this range around the reference temperature. | 1 to 50 °C | 15 °C |
| VE reference air temperature | Center of the range above and reference of the temperature diagnosis. It does not change the injection. | −20 to 80 °C | 30 °C |
| Ethanol change that blocks learning | Ethanol varying by more than this in 10 s stops the learning. It only acts with the flex compensation active. | 0.5 to 20% | 2% |
Leave the differential pressure tolerance at the factory 10%. A working pressure different from the rated one is solved by entering the injector at the working pressure: see Before you start: engine, fuel, injectors and sensors.
#Tables (Adjust tab)
Fast correction (STFT) limits by MAP limits the fast correction by pressure, in % of the fuel: the Upper row to add, the Lower row to remove. Learning speed by MAP says what fraction of the fast correction each step takes to the learning. At 0, nothing is learned at that pressure.
| MAP (bar) | Upper (%) | Lower (%) | Learning speed (%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| −0.8 | 10 | −10 | 30 |
| −0.6 | 10 | −10 | 30 |
| −0.4 | 10 | −10 | 40 |
| −0.2 | 10 | −10 | 50 |
| 0 | 8 | −8 | 50 |
| 0.5 | 5 | −5 | 30 |
| 1.0 | 5 | −3 | 0 |
| 2.0 | 5 | −3 | 0 |
Ranges: Upper from 0 to 100%, Lower from −100 to 0%, speed from 0 to 100%. Between the points the VCU interpolates. A limit above Total authority (STFT + LTFT) has no effect: the authority cuts first. By default nothing is learned from 1.0 bar upward; tune that region from the log.
#VE learning (LTFT)
Path: on the computer, menu Tools > VE learning (LTFT), which requires the VCU connected; on the VCU screen, alongside the injection functions. There are three pages: Live, Diagnostic and Commit to VE.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clear LTFT | On the Live page. Erases the learning in the VCU, copies the axes of the VE that is in the VCU and saves; it works even with the closed loop off. It asks for no confirmation and has no undo. | button | not applicable |
| Save now | Saves the learning to the VCU memory right away; the slot seq goes up. It does not change the VE or the map. | button | not applicable |
| Minimum confidence (hits) | On the Diagnostic page. Learning steps that a cell needs to have to enter the diagnosis and the application to the VE. | 1 to 200 | 20 |
| Analyze | Runs the four tests of the diagnosis on the cells with the minimum confidence. It changes nothing. | button | not applicable |
| Remove the explained components from the residual | Removes from the residual the global, deadtime and air temperature error that the diagnosis finds. An idle-only error stays. | on or off | on |
| Percentage to apply | On the Commit to VE page. Fraction of the residual carried to the VE. | 0 to 100%, step 5 | 50% |
| Smooth with the neighboring cells | Blends each cell with the neighbors that also have the minimum confidence. It does not save a cell without confidence. | on or off | off |
| Preview | Shows the VE cells that will change. It writes nothing. | button | not applicable |
| Apply to VE | Writes the correction into the open map and, in the same click, clears the VCU learning, with no confirmation. It does not send the map to the VCU, and Undo does not bring the learning back: save and send the map right afterward. | button | not applicable |
Always apply on the same map that is in the VCU, as Self-learning: VE learning (LTFT) warns; it also has how much to drive, when to turn on Apply the learned LTFT and the order of clearing and applying.
#Engine temperature compensation
Path: Fuel tables > Engine temperature compensation. The function is on by default.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine temperature compensation | Extra fuel by Engine temperature, in % of the useful time, added to the other enrichments. With the engine temperature sensor in failure, it does not act. | −99 to 99%, up to 16 points | 45% at −10 °C |
Default: 45% at −10 °C, 42% at 0 °C, 40% at 10 °C, 37% at 20 °C, 34% at 30 °C, 29% at 40 °C, 22% at 50 °C, 15% at 60 °C, 7% at 70 °C, 0 from 80 to 100 °C and 10% at 120 and at 180 °C.
With the closed loop on, zero the table from the closed loop Minimum engine temperature: by default it still adds 7% at 70 °C and 10% from 120 °C upward. See Enrichments and compensations in VE mode.
#Differential fuel pressure deviation compensation
Path: Fuel tables > Differential fuel pressure deviation compensation. The function is off by default.
In VE mode only the direct injection modes have an effect: the fuel pressure and the differential pressure are already in the VE calculation.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compensate primaries (for B and C: Compensate secondaries, Compensate tertiaries) | Turns on the compensation of the bank. In VE it only acts with the mode set to DI 1 or DI 2. | on or off | off |
| Operation mode | Pressure compared with the reference: Fuel pressure, Differential fuel pressure (the screen shows Base fuel pressure), DI Fuel pressure 1 or DI Fuel pressure 2. | 4 options | A differential, B DI 1, C fuel |
| Fuel pressure reference | Reference of the first two modes, which the VE ignores. | 0 to 500 bar | 3.00 bar |
| DI Fuel pressure reference | Reference of the DI modes. A pressure read below it asks for more fuel, by the square root of the ratio between the two. | 0 to 500 bar | 180 bar |
#Prime pulse
Path: Fuel tables > Prime pulse. The function is off by default.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fuel prime pulse | One pulse, in ms, at the first speed signal, on the banks with Use primary on prime pulse checked. It does not depend on the VE. | 0 to 400 ms, by temperature | 65 ms at 10 °C, 3 ms at 80 °C |
#Engine start
Path: Fuel tables > Engine start. The screen only appears if some bank uses Engine start fuel injection table.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine start | Total start pulse, in ms, by engine temperature. In VE it does not add deadtime or compensate for the battery voltage. | 0 to 400 ms | 16 ms at −10 °C, 4 ms at 80 °C |
Default: 16 ms at −10 and at 0 °C, 14 ms at 10 °C, 12 ms at 20 °C, 10 ms at 40 °C, 6 ms at 60 °C and 4 ms at 80 and at 100 °C. With the engine temperature sensor in failure, the 0 °C value applies. The start injection is cut with the pedal above Disable injection on engine start with TPS above and with a total injection cut.
#Post start enrichment
Path: Fuel tables > Post start enrichment. The function is on by default.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Post start enrichment | Extra fuel after the start, in % of the useful time, by engine temperature and time. It ends at the last time of the table. | −99 to 299%, 4 × 4 | 70% at 10 °C, end at 8 s |
Default: at 10 °C, 70, 45, 16.7 and 4% at 0, 1, 3 and 8 s; at 30 °C, 30, 20, 11 and 2%; at 50 °C, 20, 9, 7 and 0.5%; at 80 °C, 10, 6, 2.5 and 0%. With the engine temperature sensor in failure, the table does not act. The closed loop stays stopped during the whole enrichment plus the Time after start to begin.
#Engine settings
Path: Engine Settings > Engine settings.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fuel strategy | VE Based turns on the VE tables and functions; Injector Pulsewidth, those of the pulsewidth mode. Switching does not convert any table. | Injector Pulsewidth, VE Based | Injector Pulsewidth |
| Engine type | On a rotary there is one pulse per revolution, and the Multipoint mode does not divide the pulse by 2. | Piston, Rotary | Piston |
| Number of cylinders | Divides the Engine volume to find the volume of one cylinder. On a rotary, the screen asks for Number of rotors. | 1 to 16 | 8 |
| Engine volume | Total displacement. A larger value asks for more fuel. At zero no bank injects through the VE and FuelTech Vision reports an error. | 0 to 200 L, in cc, CI or L | 0 |
| Main fuel table | It does not change the VE, which is always speed by pressure. Leave it at Boost: at TPS, the log shows a table that the VCU does not use. Exception: individual throttle bodies with ignition by throttle (see What makes VE advanced, and the limits). | TPS, Boost | Boost |
| Maximum boost | In VE it limits neither pressure nor fuel. It serves the base map wizard. | 0 to 20 bar | 5.00 bar |
| Maximum RPM | In VE it does not change the fuel; the RPM cut and the LED tables that go past it come down to it. | 1500 to 32000 rpm | 9800 rpm |
| RPM for engine start | Below it the engine is cranking and the start routines apply. | 200 to 2000 rpm | 400 rpm |
#Fuel injection
Path: Engine Settings > Fuel injection. The fields of bank A repeat for banks B and C.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fuel primary | Turns the bank on. When off, it does not inject and is skipped in the staging between banks. | on or off | A on; B and C off |
| Primary mode | Multipoint fires twice per cycle and divides the pulse by 2. Sequential requires a phase sensor (cam sync). | Multipoint, Semi-sequential, Sequential | Semi-sequential |
| Primary outputs | Number of output channels of the bank, not the number of injectors. | depends on the mode | 4 |
| Use primary during cranking | The bank injects during the start. | on or off | A and C on; B off |
| Injection mode for engine start bank A | Engine start fuel injection table uses the Engine start table. Fuel injection main table calculates the start from the VE. | 2 options | Engine start fuel injection table |
| Use primary on prime pulse | The bank receives the Prime pulse, when the function is on. | checked or unchecked | A and C checked; B unchecked |
| Disable injection on engine start with TPS above | A start with the pedal above this goes without injection, to clear a flooded engine. The VCU reads the pedal channel; with no valid pedal, it does not act. | 0 to 100% | 70% |
The Reference deadtime for primaries injectors, on the Injector configuration screen, only appears and only applies in pulsewidth mode: in VE the deadtime comes entirely from the injector table.
#Sensors and failsafe
Tab of the Fuel injection screen, block Sensor configuration - VE. The tab only appears with VE Based.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Use MAP sensor | On, the VE uses the MAP read. Off, it uses the failsafe and does not limit the engine speed. | on or off | on |
| MAP failsafe | Pressure used with no valid MAP reading. With an external sensor as the main sensor in failure, no valid backup and Use MAP sensor on, the VCU also limits to 4000 rpm. | Fixed value, MAP estimated by TPS table | MAP estimated by TPS table |
| Manifold pressure failsafe | Pressure assumed in Fixed value mode. Use a value above −1 bar: the calculation adds 1.01325 bar, and below −1.01 bar the absolute pressure becomes negative. | −2 to 20 bar | −0.30 bar |
| Use air temperature sensor | On, it uses the sensor when it reads between −30 and 120 °C; outside that, it uses the failsafe. Fix the sensor before turning it on. | on or off | on |
| Air temperature failsafe | Air temperature assumed with no valid reading. A colder value asks for more fuel. | −50 to 1250 °C (field limit) | 25 °C |
| Use fuel temperature sensor | It does not change the fuel: the fuel temperature does not enter the VE calculation. | on or off | on |
| Fuel temperature failsafe | It does not change the fuel. | −50 to 1250 °C (field limit) | 25 °C |
| Use fuel pressure sensor | On, the differential pressure is the sensor pressure minus the MAP. With no sensor installed, turn it off. | on or off | on |
| Fuel pressure failsafe | With the switch above on, the pressure assumed when the sensor is invalid. With it off, it is the fixed differential pressure of the calculation. | 0 to 10 bar | 3.00 bar |
With no fuel pressure sensor and with a manifold-referenced regulator, turn off Use fuel pressure sensor and enter the working differential pressure as the failsafe; a line with fixed pressure needs the sensor. The reason, and the 4000 rpm limiter, which only arms with an external MAP sensor as the main sensor, are in Before you start: engine, fuel, injectors and sensors.
#Injector configuration
Path: Engine Settings > Injector configuration. The fields of bank A repeat for banks B and C.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flow rate of each primary injector | Flow rate of one injector at the rated pressure. A larger value shortens the pulse. At zero the bank does not inject. | 0 to 10000 lb/h, or the chosen unit | 230 lb/h |
| Primary total flow | Read-only: flow rate times number of cylinders. It goes to the estimated consumption, not to the pulse. | calculated | calculated |
| Primary injector rated pressure | Pressure at which the flow rate was measured. Together with the flow rate, it sets the pulse and the center of the window in which the learning happens. | 0 to 500 bar | 3.00 bar |
| Primary injector opening to bring in the next bank | Maximum opening of the bank before passing the rest to the next bank that is on. At 100%, it only stages with the injector saturated. | 0 to 100% | 100% |
| Primary injectors deadtime | Table of deadtime added to each pulse. A larger value lengthens the pulse and matters more on short pulses. | 0 to 5.000 ms | 1.000 ms at 12 V and 3 bar |
| Primary injector linearization | Table of milliseconds added to the useful time of short pulses, per cylinder. A positive value asks for more fuel. | −100 to +100 ms | 0 in all |
| Table | Rows | Columns | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary injectors deadtime | Differential pressure, 2.8 to 6.9 bar | battery voltage, 8 to 15 V | 1.000 ms at 12 V; 1.600 ms at 8 V |
| Primary injector linearization | Injector: cylinders 1 to 16 | Useful injection time: 0 to 3.00 ms | 0 in all cells |
Flow rate, rated pressure, Engine volume, Number of cylinders and fuel only change the pulse when the screen is saved to the VCU, or when the map is written to the VCU from the computer; deadtime, linearization and opening apply right away. In the linearization, the + key adds 0.5 ms; for small steps, type the value or use Shift with +, which adds 0.001 ms.
How to fill in the flow rate and rated pressure at the working pressure, deadtime, linearization and two injectors per cylinder, and what changes on saving: see Before you start: engine, fuel, injectors and sensors.
#Fuel configuration
Path: Engine Settings > Fuel configuration.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fuel | Defines the stoichiometric AFR, density and BSFC, and the conversion between lambda and AFR on all screens. It does not change the lambda numbers in the tables. | 9 options | Pure gasoline (E0) |
| AFR stoichiometric (the base map wizard shows Stoichiometric AFR) | Divides the requested fuel: a larger value asks for less fuel. Editable only in Custom; check the value before sending the map. | 1 to 20 | that of the fuel |
| Fuel specific gravity | It does not enter the pulse. It changes the estimated consumption and the flow conversion between volume (cc/min) and mass (lb/h). Editable only in Custom. | 0.01 to 2 g/cc | that of the fuel |
| BSFC | It only changes the estimated power and torque in the log. Editable only in Custom. | 0 to 2 lb/hp·h | that of the fuel |
| Fuel | Stoichiometric AFR | Density (g/cc) |
|---|---|---|
| Pure gasoline (E0) | 14.7 | 0.745 |
| Regular BR Gasoline (E27) | 12.6 | 0.750 |
| Premium gas (Super plus) | 13.5 | 0.745 |
| Ethanol (E100) | 9.0 | 0.789 |
| Ethanol (pump) | 8.4 | 0.809 |
| E85 | 9.8 | 0.780 |
| Methanol (the screen shows Alcohol) | 6.5 | 0.792 |
| Diesel S10 | 14.5 | 0.840 |
| Custom | typed in | typed in |
With the flex compensation active, the VE ignores the chosen fuel and uses the mixture of gasoline and ethanol read by the sensor. Which option to choose and how flex works in the VE: see Before you start: engine, fuel, injectors and sensors.
#Sensors and calibration
Path: Sensors and calibration, screens Wide band O2 sensor, MAP sensor and Flex fuel.
| Parameter | What it does | Range and unit | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sensor selection for average value | Sensors whose average the VE closed loop uses. The correction that comes out of it applies to all banks. | list of sensors | only O2 General |
| Average value protection | On, it removes from the average the readings above lambda 1.090. | on or off | off |
| Sensor mode | Chooses the main and the backup MAP sensor, internal or external. | 5 options | internal main, no backup |
| Smoothing level (average points) | Average of MAP readings. More samples make the signal calmer and more delayed. | 0 to 63 | 3 |
| Calibration | Shifts the internal MAP reading. Do not use it to zero the MAP on site: there is no barometer and the calculation adds a fixed 1.01325 bar. | −1 to 20 bar | 0.0 bar |
| Change to backup MAP sensor | Enables the switch to the backup. By default, it switches when the main one is outside −1.0 to 4.0 bar for 0.5 s, until the VCU restarts. | on or off | off |
| Default blend in case of error on flex fuel sensor | Ethanol content assumed with the flex sensor invalid and the flex compensation active. | % ethanol | 50% |
O2 sensors, MAP sensor and flex in VE mode: see Before you start: engine, fuel, injectors and sensors.
